What is MotoTechs.net?

MotoTechs.net brings together a group of people that are willing to share quality information and their practical experience of the technologies that are needed to re-build, maintain or modify a wide range of motorcycles.

Information is POWER, and you just can't have too much POWER!

Why is MotoTechs.net?

I've found it very frustrating over the years to see huge amounts of information and experience disappear into oblivion as Senior Techs like myself leave the industry to follow other interests or career paths. While new entrants into the industry have to deal with a wider range of technologies on an even wider range of models.

There's only so much information and experience a single person can collect and deal with over such a wide variety of systems and limited instances of the same problems.

It's also been frustrating to see information being withheld at the Distributor level, not so much as far as technical info goes. More with either purposeful or inefficient communication, some Distributors have a 'divide and conquer' mentality when it comes to acknowledging problems to their dealer network.

  • They won't admit there's a known problem until it's completley unavoidable as that will just spread the problem further and faster.
  • They don't want us playing around with that hidden feature.
  • They won't admit that they don't know how it works, just push the line - 'you must have the OEM software/diagnostic equipment or tools' to adjust that.

Some of the policies or actions I've seen are justified and some of it's been just plain 'us-and-them' or a form of information power-mongering.

Owners and riders have their own online networks to share their experiences and resources, why shouldn't the 'meat-in-the-sandwhich' Technicians.

And so, MotoTechs.net was born, but is it for you? - read on and decide for yourself.

Is MotoTechs.net for you?

Have you experienced any of the following lately:

  • You've needed some specs or technical tips on what you've been working on or to better understand a technical system but the info is either not available at the time or the source is unreliable or maybe even uncooperative.
  • You know what it's like to call a Dealer's Service Dept for technical info and they've been too busy, indifferent to what you need, purposely misleading or haven't had the experience to help you.
  • You've looked-up the latest all-encompassing technical resource and the detailed information you need isn't there or is obviously inaccurate. What do you do, you either have to wait till the info is available, spend a lot of time sourcing it or wing-it.

What if you could call on a group of like-minded people to share their resources and experience. Would that be of interest to you? MotoTechs.net is just that, somewhere where we can help each other with that missing piece of the puzzle and a place where some of the resources and experience can be archived.

You could even be building a network of friends and contacts that could take your life, career or businesss to a different level or country.

Imagine posting a problem or technical question on the forum and within minutes (or it may be over-night) someone local or from another country that had the same problem or has access to resources that you haven't has shared their solution with you.

Do you want any of the following?

  • Access to quality technical information on motorcycles.
  • Access to a group that's willing to share their experience and knowledge of motorcycles.
  • To share your experience and knowledge of motorcycles, whatever level it may be.

If you've answered yes to any of the questions above, what are you waiting for?

How will MotoTechs.net be developed?

I'm not sure of the exact path and structure that MotoTechs.net will take as yet. I do know that there is a range of modules available that can be used with this content management system. There are blogs, forums, community builders, private messaging, polls, surveys and user-submitted content systems. For now there will be more technical content added as available and as more contributors become available this may grow quicker. A forum has been setup to let some real-time interaction happen between us. I'm open to suggestions for growing this system as quick as possible.

I would also like to put this forward up-front. There are going to be costs that have to be met and as MotoTechs.net grows these will also grow. At some stage there will have to be an income derived from the site, so it will not always be available to all for free. What structure any Membership charges take will be determined at a later date but I will say this, there will be very favourable considerations for any members that contribute content.
